About the Program

Training begins with introducing students to the fundamentals of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration technology, including combustion analysis, unit airflow setup and check out, and a host of other essential basics. We feature facilities in Bucks County and Camden County and our students will gain the hands-on training that they will utilize once they graduate. Pennco Tech offers an unrivaled level of instruction and education for our HVAC&R students.

The program contains a presentation of theory, with 65% of the program is taught through hands-on training from our dedicated instructors. This means that a committed educator with several years of experience will be with you every step of the way, guiding and informing your training sessions.  Excellent employment opportunities exist for entry-level positions as an HVAC/R technician or maintenance technician.

HVAC&R Classes Include

As part of our comprehensive technical education, we offer specialized training in system circuits, soldering, and pipefitting. In addition, we offer instruction on basic principles of electricity, gas, oil, heat pump systems, installation, and maintenance practices in our classes. Other skills learned in this program and certification includes education in personal and environmental safety, responsible handling, identification, and use of all related equipment.

• How to size a home and perform a load calculation
• Designing and creating ductwork
• Piping, soldering, brazing copper connections for various HVAC systems
• Commercial and residential updated technology
• Piping line set through various angles and openings
• Updated thermostat controls that follow the industry standard
• Variable speed motors and the workings of designing their use
• Tankless heater and standard combination boiler training
• Various Heat Pump systems and geothermal/radiant heat through solar load
• Hydronic piping of boilers and updated radiant heating technology
• New installation of residential systems including split A/C, mini splits, and heat pumps
• A full break down of the components related to the industry
• Refrigeration controls as well as piping
• Refrigerant applications (Low Temp, Medium Temp, and High temp cases)
• Proper handling and storing procedures of refrigerant
• Performing an evacuation and recharge procedure on various systems

Students are shown how variable frequency drives and inverters provide energy savings by reducing the amperage output.  You’ll also gain valuable experience in the solar heat to satisfy heating loads through radiant heat gain. We’ll also cover geothermal heating which is using the heat or water from the ground to satisfy heating loads.  You’ll also gain hands-on experience into solar savings with Manual J and Manual D which will determine the unit size and the use of proper insulation materials to keep any external heating or cooling source out of the home, which essentially makes a home its own environment.

Excellent employment opportunities exist for HVAC/R technicians that are in demand.  We proudly offer Lifetime Career Services, which helps graduates find employment upon graduation, and any employment assistance that is needed in the future.

Certifications

At Pennco Tech, you’ll receive intensive, hands-on training in which you will be prepared for the different avenues in the HVAC/R field. We also provide certification testing for Section 608 (EPA) as part of this program. That means, once you graduate, you’ll likely be able to get higher-level positions within the HVAC industry, and have higher earning potential due to your extensive training. There is also a Trac Pipe Certification.
