We all want to be successful and excel in our field of choice, but how do we get there? While the answer isn’t in black and white, there are steps you can take to ensure that you accomplish your goals.
It all begins in school. How you perform when learning your craft directly affects how you will do when you’re actually in the field. To set yourself up for success, you need a strong foundation.
Having a motto to live by as you navigate your way through earning an education at Pennco Tech can only benefit you. So as you get ready to head out into the workforce, make sure you’re practicing these four skills in school:
A’s All Around
There are four “A” words to live by when you’re in school. As long as you take the lessons behind them, you’re likely to receive a career that you can be proud of.
Attendance – While it may seem obvious, whether or not you attend your classes has a lot to do with the type of worker you’ll be after school. Employers can see your school attendance records when you attend a vocational or trade school; and if you’re not showing up for class, they won’t think you’ll show up to work either. Arrive on time, be present, and show that you’re there to learn.
Attitude – Nobody wants an employee that’s in a bad mood all the time. As you approach each project, always start with a positive attitude. A smile and a can-do spirit can take you a long way both academically and professionally. Also, if your personality helps you stand out from the crowd, you are more likely to be selected for a job.
A’s – And of course, your grades are extremely important. While C’s get you to the graduation line, you won’t stick out to employers if you’re just coasting by. Instead, try your hardest for A’s. Getting A’s shows that you pay attention in class, study, and strive for excellence.
Appearance – Your appearance has a lot to do with how people perceive you. After all, you never get a second chance at a first impression. So ask yourself in the mirror “Would I hire me?”. If the answer is no, see what steps you can take to have a more professional appearance.
And there you have it: attendance, attitude, As, and appearance — the four A’s of success. As you prepare to launch into your career, make sure you keep all of these in mind.
