How Long Does It Take to Complete Electrician School?

There are several paths to becoming an electrician, and requirements vary by state. However, an electrician school is a great way to start this trade career. At Pennco Tech, students can enroll in our electrician program, which is conducted at our campuses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Students can be ready to start their careers in just 26 weeks.

There is growing recognition of the importance of electricians in industries to aid country-wide electrification efforts. As electrical infrastructure and clean energy initiatives continue to grow, there is a renewed focus on increasing the number of people with electrician skillsets. The Electrician Program at Pennco Tech

The electrician program at our vocational school can be completed in as few as 26 weeks. For added convenience, classes are offered for both daytime and evening students. If you have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent certification, you are eligible to apply for admission to the electrician school at Pennco Tech. We offer our electrician program at two campus locations, in Blackwood, NJ, and Bristol, PA.

The classes cover basic electrical skills, residential wiring, and electrical wiring for commercial applications. The 900-hour program is made up of three 300-hour terms. Daytime students attend classes for 26 weeks, while evening students attend for 75 weeks, completing 900 clock hours of instruction. Classes prepare students to work in entry-level electrician jobs with the following skills:

  • Safe handling of tools and equipment
  • Understanding of electrical theory and principles
  • Working knowledge of electrical measuring instruments
  • Ability to perform load calculations, circuit analysis, and installations
  • Basic facility with circuits, alternators, DC motors, and DC generators
  • Standard methods of wiring, splicing, grounding, cabling, etc.
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Code
  • Introduction to solar photovoltaics
  • Troubleshooting and basic repairs

Our highly qualified instructors share their real-world experience with students. Hands-on practical learning takes place in a lab environment. Students are exposed to blueprint reading, scientific principles in chemistry and physics, and appropriate government regulations. Many of our students exercise the option to receive OSHA outreach training.

Students complete the program with qualifications to work as electrician technicians. With so many options in multiple industries, newly trained electrician technicians can pursue a variety of on-the-job training opportunities. As our students learn more about this crucial career, they may pursue pathways for continuing education and apprenticeships to help them attain licenses or certifications as independent electricians.
