New Year, New Career

January 12th, 2021

Trade school student looking to the future

At the start of every year, it’s only natural to make plans for yourself that help you improve, grow, and pursue new opportunities. Something you can’t plan for, however, are big, unexpected changes in the workplace and economy, and how they may affect your future plans. At Pennco Tech in Bristol, Pennsylvania and Blackwood, New Jersey, we believe that although there are negative changes in the workforce, they can be viewed as great equalizers and opportunities for businesses, individuals, and communities to reinvent themselves. Here, we delve into how you can benefit from using shakeups in society as your chance to build and improve from the ground up – as well as launch a new career.

Opportunities – Not Obstacles

Life in the time of COVID-19 has undoubtedly thrown us a curveball. During this unsettling and uncertain time, local economies were shut down. It also brought with it many new changes that many viewed as obstacles to bettering their future, including:

  • The shift many businesses made to work from home
  • Children being in school part-time or completely learning virtually
  • Social distancing requirements and limits on capacity
  • Widespread unemployment and financial hardship
  • And more.

While unpredictable changes to the workforce can certainly be challenging to navigate, they also present invaluable opportunities for communities, individuals, and companies to reinvent themselves and improve. Back to the COVID-19 example: though sudden shutdowns and new regulations forced many businesses to operate differently, many responded by adjusting their strategy with methods that brought newfound success, such as:

  • Urgent need for healthcare professionals; such as, medical assistants and pharmacy techs
  • Increased need for automotive and diesel technicians to repair vehicles
  • Electricians and plumbers needed to refit buildings for social distancing
  • Upgrading HVAC system regarding the filtration of recycled air to reduce the risk of cross-infection

How to Evolve With New Changes

Because you can never predict when a negative shift might happen, it’s vital to learn how to evolve with them instead of postponing all of your plans in their wake. Pennco Tech is here to help our students do just that. With Pennco Tech’s life-essential career programs, our graduates were working when others were not.  Whether it’s maintaining a delivery fleet, renovating the HVAC, or filling out prescriptions from online orders, there’s sure to be an opening that you can take advantage of upon completion of one of our programs, which include:

I enjoyed all my teachers. They made it interesting and challenging. I enjoyed going back to school at the age of 48! Career Services was a big help to me. Danielle was great. She helped me with my resume and showed me how to apply. I got the job with Dietz and Watson! Pennco Tech was the right choice for me as I get ready to start my career.
