Anyone who has called a plumber knows what a valuable service they provide. Employed in the residential, manufacturing, and public works sectors, plumbers perform a wide variety of tasks and duties. If you are interested in attending plumbing school, Pennco Tech offers quality vocational training for students seeking entry-level plumbing jobs. Here are some questions and answers about our plumbing program, located at our Bristol, PA, campus.

How Long Is the Plumbing School Program?

The plumbing program at Pennco Tech lasts 26 weeks, with an average of 34 hours per week of instruction. The program trains students in both plumbing and heating repair work. We also offer trade programs for electricians, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) technicians, and welders.

What Is the Class Schedule?

Our full time Plumbing program is only offered during the day. We provide experienced instructors and a hands-on learning environment designed to help students prepare for employment. With daytime classes divided into three 300-hour sections, students learn about the fundamentals of the trade, heating systems, and plumbing. Classes are held from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

What Skills Are Included in the Program?

Graduates develop the skills necessary to install, repair, and maintain most plumbing and heating systems. The classes cover residential, commercial, and industrial installations. This includes instruction on the types of oral and written communications required for the job. Instructors also provide information about licensing requirements in Pennsylvania.

Instruction in the plumbing program at Pennco Tech includes:

  • National Plumbing Code and other industry standards
  • Principles of water supply and drain systems
  • Pipe fitting, installation, and connections
  • Services required for appliances, such as water heaters, sinks, toilets, and stormwater systems
  • Pipe joints, including lead, oakum, and cast iron

Is There an Online Component to the Program?

This program does not include online instruction. Pennco Tech offers a hands-on learning environment that is effective for learning plumbing skills in a relatively short period of time.

Is Financial Aid Available?

Yes! Over 80 percent of the student body at Pennco Tech qualifies for financial aid. Find out whether you qualify for loans, grants, or scholarships with the help of our Financial Aid office. Resources we offer include the Student Loan Counseling department. Our staff advises graduates on strategies to repay their student loans within a reasonable time span.

*Financial Aid available only to those who qualify.

What Certifications Do Graduates Earn?

Graduates of our plumbing program are ready for entry-level jobs in the field. The program does not include licensing or certifications. After gaining work experience, they are in a good position to explore options for advancing in their chosen career. For example, those with entry-level skills may choose to embark on a formal apprenticeship, working with more advanced plumbers for several years. These apprenticeships include technical training and on-the-job, paid experience. After gaining the requisite amount of training and experience, they may be qualified to sit for licensing examinations. These procedures vary by state.

Does the Vocational School Provide Job Assistance?

Pennco Tech offers students and alumni the help of our Career Services department. These are comprehensive career guidance resources available for life, including assistance with networking and job searching skills, resume preparation, and interview skills.

Can an Entry-Level Job Lead to Other Careers?

Plumbers can specialize in certain types of work, such as assisting homeowners with emergencies or working full-time in a manufacturing plant. Those who attain master or journey plumber status may also supervise apprentices and other helpers. Plumbers come into contact with a variety of other trades occupations and may choose to combine their plumbing skills with other occupations for career advancement.
