Welding school is an exciting program offered at your local vocational school, Pennco tech Bristol campus, that can positively change your career trajectory. Those new to trade careers may have a vision of a welder wearing protective clothing and using a torch to join metal structures. While this image is accurate, welders can work with many different materials and methods to repair equipment, construct buildings, connect pipes for water systems, and maintain assembly line functions. Pennco Tech offers a welding program for students in New Jersey and Pennsylvania that prepares them for entry-level positions working in the field.

Good Wages and Employability

This occupation is in steady demand, and welding school can lead to a well-paid career. Manufacturing processes often include welding, and this work is essential to boosting product inventory, keeping trucks and fleets rolling, and maintaining transportation routes. Welding jobs and careers include the following:

  • Industrial boilermakers
  • Robotic welding technicians
  • Pipefitters
  • Fabricators
  • Sheet metal workers
  • Master plumbers
  • Ironworkers
  • Auto body welders
  • Tool and die makers
  • Master jewelers
  • Maintenance and repair crews
  • MIG (metal inert gas) welders
  • Oil- and gas-industry welders
  • Welding inspectors
  • Self-employed welders

There are a variety of skills associated with welding. These jobs require familiarity with materials, physical strength, manual dexterity, and a high degree of concentration. Many welding jobs require stamina, as well. These construction professionals read blueprints and sketches, make calculations, and maintain their own equipment.

Welding School for Industrial Careers

Many employers require technical training. Completing a welding school program ensures that students receive important safety training and a firm grounding in the basic skills necessary to start a welding career. At Pennco Tech, students learn about electricity, blueprint reading, and four types of welding processes. They receive instruction on how to maintain equipment, how to understand welding symbols, and how to identify appropriate designs and materials. Because welding is a skill used across many industrial sectors and for a variety of purposes, there are great benefits to gaining a solid introduction in welding school.

Quality Training at Pennco Tech

Another benefit to attending welding school at Pennco Tech is our approach to hands-on learning. In trade careers, experience counts. As outlined in the catalog, our welding program is divided into two 450-clock-hour sections, Welding Fundamentals followed by Advanced Welding. Students learn to weld plates in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions. Working with qualified instructors, they can learn working knowledge in welding for construction, fabrication, and plant maintenance environments. The courses also include basic preparation for entry-level structural and pipe-related projects.

The second term of the welding program continues providing students opportunities to use their hands and develop skills. Students who successfully complete the welding program at Pennco Tech will understand the following welding procedures:

  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG)
  • Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW)
  • Gas Tungsten Arc Gas Welding (GTAW/TIG)

A few of the job titles that students may qualify for after graduation include welder-helper, welder, brazer, cutter, fabrication welder, fitter/welder, industrial and maintenance welder, shielded metal arc welder, and solderer. In addition, instructors introduce students to the American Welding Society certification process.
