Rinnai Training Partnership and NORA Certification Program

As a result, HVAC technology may also become more complex, which requires HVAC technicians to continuously upgrade their skills to keep up. That’s why Pennco Tech came together with Rinnai American Corporation to bolster its Plumbing & Heating Technology and HVAC&R training programs in its Bristol, PA campus.

The essence of this partnership is to ensure in-training and practicing HVAC and plumbing students acquire the required hands-on skills to professionally service on-demand hot water makers and combi boilers.

Understanding the Pennco Tech and Rinnai America Corporation Partnership

Rinnai America Corporation (RAC) is a nationally acclaimed manufacturer of residential and commercial heating solutions. The company boasts a proven track record as the first manufacturer of tankless water heaters in the US. Rinnai’s 100-year dedication to quality allows the company to provide industry-leading warranties, and thus the need to train students on how to install the systems as per Rinnai’s standards.

By partnering with RAC, Pennco Tech aims to offer students at the Bristol, PA campus high-quality HVAC and plumbing classes to ensure they’re well-trained, equipped, and skilled to handle installations and repairs of Rinnai HVAC systems while matching the company’s high-quality standards. The training focuses on ensuring students understand the latest Rinnai heating and plumbing technologies to successfully service the highly sought-after tankless hot water makers and combination boilers.

A Two-Fold Training Course

The training program has two classes, and every student must successfully undergo each course to obtain certification. They include:

Rinnai Level 2 Installation Fundamentals Certificate

Students must complete an online training course as in a classroom or lab setting. In this program, aspiring HVAC and plumbing technicians learn the basics and theoretical fundamentals of Rinnai Level 2 installations, including

  • Tankless water heater and combi boiler features and specs
  • Product sequence of operation
  • Modular/Prefabricated home installation
  • Installation key points
  • Installation Requirements
  • Venting requirements
  • Warranty and maintenance; and many more

Rinnai Tankless Level-3 Service Fundamentals Certificate

A few days following Level-2 Installation Fundamentals certification, Rinnai’s master-certified instructors will come to Pennco Tech Bristol campus to spend an entire day providing on-site, hands-on training in servicing tankless hot water makers and boilers. Trainees who complete this practical training course earn the coveted “Rinnai Tankless Level-3 – Service Fundamentals” certificate.

NORA Certification Program

The National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA) was established in 2000 through a Congressional decree to fund the oil heating industry and ensure efficient and dependable heat and hot water to American households. Its four key pillars include:

  • Professional education
  • Efficient energy
  • Oil heating Safety
  • Research

Pennco Tech also provides a NORA technician certification program to educate and train HVAC& R and Plumbing & Heating Technology students in Bristol, PA to ensure they understand the operation standards and codes of the oil heating industry. Our NORA program provides three levels of certifications, namely:

  • Bronze Certification – This certification program is designed to educate students on the fundamentals to become oil-heat service technicians. It’s the first certification toward a fulfilling career in the Oilheat sector.
  • Silver Certification – To upgrade to silver certification, students must cover 20 NORA continuous education units (CEUs), pass a written exam, and have a three-year field experience. This certification is designed for heating technicians who demonstrate competence in their work.
  • Gold Certification – This certification enables experienced and competent technicians to advance from basic installation and repair services to achieve the highest-level certification in the Oilheat industry. To become Gold-certified, technicians must first attain a Silver certification, have at least five years of field experience, and pass four Advanced Training Modules exams.
