It’s hard to imagine life without professional automotive technicians that you can trust when something goes wrong with your vehicle. Being such an in-demand profession, automotive technician candidates are always being sought out by employers, which is why Pennco Tech is committed to training them at our campuses in Bristol, Pennsylvania, and Blackwood, New Jersey. Here, a 2021 graduate of our Automotive Technology program describes his experience at Pennco Tech and how it helped shape him into the confident automotive technician he is today.

Edward Wangolo’s Story

Before enrolling at Pennco Tech, Edward Wangolo felt drawn to the automotive industry and began seeking out local programs where he could receive hands-on training.

“Out of high school, I knew I wanted to do automotive work, and searching around, Pennco Tech came up,” he says. “Pennco Tech offers a lot of things compared to other schools. That’s why I was definitely interested in it.”

For one, Wangolo knew that he would have to prove himself to stand out in the automotive industry. He needed comprehensive, hands-on training in all facets of automotive technology, including:

• Identifying mechanical problems and explaining them and their solutions to clients
• Disassembling and reassembling parts of vehicles
• Utilizing test equipment to confirm the success of repairs
• Becoming proficient in mechanical and computerized components, as well as the latest advances in technologies

“I knew coming in that Pennco Tech was for me and would be more hands-on than other schools,” says Wangolo. “From the first day, you experience hands-on stuff right away, and that makes you confident once you go into the field.”

Wangolo also considered the types of support he would require throughout his time at Pennco Tech. Not only did he receive advice and assistance from our Financial Aid department, but he also was able to take advantage of working with Career Services.

“Pennco Tech helped me transition to the workforce with job opportunities, like Career Day,” he explains. “Pennco Tech also gives you the opportunity to go into the field and show how your skills stand out. Even students that are just in fundamentals right now, some of them already got job offers because of the training we go through here.”

Graduating from the Automotive Technology program early in the spring of 2021, Wangolo is now making a name for himself in the field and credits much of his newfound success to Pennco Tech.

“When I first walked through the doors of Pennco Tech, it was warm and friendly, and the staff made me feel comfortable. The last week of school was emotional. You didn’t want to go because you love the place so much,” he says. “All students should know that if they come to Pennco Tech, it’s a great opportunity. They will help you find jobs, and the staff and teachers are all great and will back you up.”
