If there’s a place that celebrates the benefits of vocational school training, it’s Pennco Tech. For 50 years, our school has been successfully educating and training students for trade careers. Now with campus locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Pennco Tech offers vocational programs that provide students with promising career outlooks.

Jason Hobyak is Vice President and Director of Sales and Marketing at Pennco Tech. He says that the people make Pennco Tech so special. “Without our people here, we wouldn’t be who we are. Everybody really does strive to see our students succeed and that’s what’s most important,” Hobyak says.

Here, we dive into Pennco Tech’s into rich history and what has made us such a successful vocational school.

Looking Back 50 Years

One family has overseen the 50-year growth of the school. Hobyak’s grandfather started the school in 1973, teaching electronics and auto technology in Bristol, PA. His father later expanded the scope of the school to include such programs as diesel technology and a medical secretary program. The staff must have at least three years of work experience in the field before they can be considered qualified to teach at Pennco Tech, according to Hobyak. “The staff put in the hard work, day in and day out, and really care about our students. It’s teamwork that makes the dream work, that whole vibe and thought process,” he explains.

As an institution, Pennco Tech has been an overall success, graduating more than 16,580 students, according to the Career Services department. Focusing on real-world educational programs for students who want to start their trade careers, the school delivered vocational school programs relevant to employers in 1973, and that continues to this day.

A Bright Future at Pennco Tech

“When the students are willing to show up and put in the hard work, we are here to support them in any way we can,” Hobyak adds. Students are supported by a variety of resources, including career services that extend to alumni. “For students, what makes it a great place is the support you receive from our staff while you’re here, and long after you’re here,” Hobyak says. “You can always come back and sit with career services, get help looking for your next job or updating your resume, or sit in on classes to refresh your industry knowledge.”

Citing a common goal held throughout the entire organization, Hobyak underscores that when students succeed, the institution succeeds. The mission of encouraging academic and technical curiosity, innovation, and creativity benefits the diverse student body at Pennco Tech

Quality Vocational School Training

The Blackwood, NJ, campus received a School of Excellence award in 2019 from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. Plus, the Bristol, PA, campus added a welding program in 2022. Over the years curriculums have developed and modernized. Today, Pennco Tech offers the following automotive programs, trade programs, and medical programs:

The vocational school also offers additional classes that cover OSHA-authorized outreach training. Further, automotive students have the opportunity to learn safety and emissions inspections for automotive classes. Students enrolled in the AT program at the Bristol campus also have the opportunity to take part in the specialized Mazda training program.

Financial Aid Available at Pennco Tech

About 80 percent of students at Pennco Tech receive financial aid. The department actively assists eligible students in applying for funding support. They may qualify for grants, scholarships, and federal or private student loans. The vocational school fully supports military and veteran students with veteran financial aid options, as well. After students complete their programs, the student loan counseling department helps students develop strategies for repayment of any loans.

Career Services for Continuing Student Success

The career services department helps students throughout their programs and after completion. It is considered a lifetime program, as are other aspects of Pennco Tech. “If you wanted to refresh your knowledge or even brush up on what’s new in the industry, we have a program that allows alumni to come back and sit in on classes at no charge,” Hobyak says. “Once you enroll here at Pennco Tech, you become part of the Pennco Tech family, and once you are part of our family, you are part of the family for life!”
