Whether it’s a blue- or white-collar job, countless positions are held by men across America. Unfortunately, it can be difficult for women to break into male-dominated industries – but things are changing. More opportunities are opening up every day for women looking to make their way into the trades. That’s why Pennco Tech has made an explicit effort to provide a high level of training to better prepare women in the trades for their careers. Here, we explain our Girl Power initiative and how we support women as they train for successful trade careers.
Since its inception, Pennco Tech has always actively supported women in the trades. “As a coed institution, our professional instructors welcome everyone and all of our programs have female enrollees,” says Deborah White, executive director of marketing at Pennco Tech.
Pennco Tech’s Girl Power initiative encourages women of all ages to get involved in the trades. White unveiled the program at the Philadelphia Auto Show, where it was received earnestly by the women in attendance. “Pennco Tech’s Girl Power campaign is designed to help promote awareness of the broad range of opportunities available to women in the trades, especially in traditionally male-dominated fields like automotive, diesel, plumbing, electrical, or HVAC/R,” adds White.
Offering a combination of classroom instruction, practical lab skills, and state-of-the-art, hands-on training, Pennco Tech teaches the most demanded industry skills and provides the tools that enable women to succeed in any trade industry, regardless of how male-dominated the field may be. “Today, gender norms about careers are breaking down considerably, and more women are entering traditionally male-dominated fields than ever before,” says White. “We believe in cultivating this interest and encouraging women to get involved in the trades.
“Women are naturally strong problem-solvers and multi-taskers who can rise to the level of any challenge or opportunity presented to them and they thrive at Pennco Tech and in their chosen fields after graduating,” White continues.
Our campuses offer courses teaching trade skills across multiple industries:
Our Girl Power campaign has one simple mission – to remind everyone that women belong in the trades, too. Whether you’re seeking a new career, thinking about your future, or helping your child navigate career avenues, “Pennco Tech offers an empowering, equal-opportunity environment, and girls excel here”, promises White.
